In Astana, Kazakhstan, the Seventh “Environment for Europe”
Ministerial Conference will take place from 21 to 23 September 2011.
The two main themes for the Conference are (1) sustainable
management of water and water-related ecosystems and (2) greening
the economy: mainstreaming the environment into economic development.

Following INC2, IPEN prepared a document outlining some key concerns
that needed to be addressed in a draft mercury treaty text. This
note compares these IPEN concerns with the new draft mercury treaty
text as described in UNEP(DTIE)/Hg/INC.3/3, along with some

In May, 2009, the second session of the International Conference of
Chemicals Management (ICCM2) adopted a resolution agreeing to
implement a project on Chemicals in Products (CiP) with the overall
objective of promoting the implementation of paragraph 15 (b) of the
Overarching Policy Strategy of the Strategic Approach to
International Chemicals Management. The Conference invited UNEP to
lead and facilitate the project. The survey in Russian

The ad hoc open-ended working group to prepare for the
intergovernmental negotiating committee on mercury will take place
in Bangkok, 19-23 October, 2009. For this meeting IPEN prepared its
Views on a Global Mercury
Treaty. This document will be discussed at NGO meeting on
Ocotber, 17-18. |

Based on the data received by NGOs in 2005, The International POPs
Elimination Network prepared a report on
DDT contamination of chicken eggs, collected in 18
countries of the world. The report in English

Olga Speranskaya, Director of
the Chemical Safety Program at the Eco-Accord Center, became one of
six prize-winner of Goldman Prize,
which often referred as Nobel Prize in environmental protection area.
The Goldman Prize recognizes individuals for sustained and
significant efforts to protect and enhance the natural environment,
often at great personal risk. The award ceremony was at 20 April
in San Francisco.
Over the past few years, Speranskaya has helped NGOs implement
more than 70 projects on toxic chemicals in Azerbaijan, Armenia,
Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine
and Uzbekistan.

In the framework of the project “Globalization, the WTO and New
Independent States: broadening the dialogue for sustainable development”. Eco-Accord
prepared the Russian edition of “Environment and Trade” Handbook.

The goal of this project of the
Earth Council in cooperation with Eco-Accord Center with support of the Ford Foundation is
to increase the awareness of stakeholders on the issues of globalisation, WTO and their
impact on environment and sustainable development, as well as to assess the consequences
of WTO accession for sustainable development in the countries of the region. In the
moment, Eco-Accord develops a publication on the outcomes of this project
“Globalisation, the WTO and New Independent States: broadening the dialogue for
sustainable development”. The publication in English and Russian includes regional and
national assessments of WTO accession.
